About the site

UNEXPLODED is an independently authored companion to Robin Nixon’s book and investigation into the SS Richard Montgomery. It is not an official Maritime and Coastguard Agency, emergency service or site-operator publication. By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

Information, evidence and safety

The site is for historical, journalistic and general informational use. It is not engineering, navigational, legal, emergency or safety advice. Do not use the webcam, archive or commentary to decide whether an exclusion zone is safe to enter or whether any activity near the wreck is permitted. Follow current official notices, marked restrictions and instructions from the relevant authorities.

The evidence pages distinguish records, claims, contradictions and interpretation. Reasonable care is taken, but historical sources may be incomplete, access can change and errors may remain. Corrections are handled through the Method & corrections page.

Copyright and permitted use

Unless a page says otherwise, the site’s original writing, design, compilation and authored illustrations are © Robin Nixon. Third-party records, quotations, marks and linked material remain the property of their respective holders. You may link to public pages and make brief, properly attributed quotations as allowed by law. You may not republish substantial site content, remove attribution, misrepresent an illustration as documentary evidence, or use the site commercially without permission.

You remain responsible for what you publish. By submitting a comment, you confirm that you have the right to submit it and grant Robin Nixon a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, preserve, format and reproduce it as part of the site and its discussion record.

Do not submit unlawful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, privacy-invasive, infringing, deceptive, automated or irrelevant material, or personal information that should not be public. Comments publish immediately and do not become verified evidence merely by appearing here. Subject to that, the site is provided without a guarantee of uninterrupted availability or that every historical source is complete, and Robin Nixon is not responsible for loss caused by relying on it as professional or safety advice, or for the operation of external services.

Law and changes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. Material changes will be published here with a revised date.
